Significant savings for meetings and event organisers

The Visit Wales business travel website is hitting the mark with venues across Wales who have backed it by providing a raft of additional special offers - many of which are exclusive to the site.

The website, at www.meetings.visitwales.com, has been well received by the UK conference and events industry, and it received more than 680 hits last month with each visitor spending an average of five minutes checking out the site.

The success of the on-line service has led venues in Wales to post a new round of special offers on the website, providing savings of up to 41 per cent for conference and venue organisers.

The Marriott St Pierre is offering up to 38 per cent off its day rate and 19 per cent off its 24 hour rate. The five star Celtic Manor Resort, home to the Ryder Cup in 2010, is extending a number of discount rates, while the Quality Hotel in Cardiff is offering 41 per cent off its day rate and 40 per cent off its 24 hour rate.

Venues in Wales are pleased with the number of sales leads and enquiries that the website is generating. Caroline Sims, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Angel Hotel, Cardiff, said: "The website is a great idea and we are pleased to support the initiative. In a competitive market place it is necessary to use every channel possible to promote your business and making the most of new technology adds to the different ways in which we can target current and potential customers."

Its popularity has also led the Visit Wales to launch a similar site, www.incentives.visitwales.com, especially geared towards incentive travel, which will run in parallel to the existing site.

Pat Crimp, marketing manager of the WTB business travel unit, said: "We are so pleased with the way in which the current website has been received that we have developed a version especially geared towards incentive travel. This has a new home page and carries more detailed itineraries but both sites have the same great savings."

Both websites aim to help meeting and conference organisers make the most of Wales as a business tourism destination. They feature information on conferences and incentives, together with suggested itineraries and forthcoming events. They also have an advanced venue search to help organisers find places that is suitable for both event and budget.

Pat Crimp added: "Wales has so much to offer as a business travel destination. It is extremely accessible, it is good value for money and offers a great choice of venues - from historic castles to purpose built modern complexes. We offer impartial advice at the business travel unit of the WTB to help people who are not familiar with the area to get the most out of it."
